March 2, 2024 - Mixed fruit, plums, spice. Long.

December 11, 2023 - A master class in savory. There’s a touch of dark fruit (more evident on the palate), but then an avalanche of savory, from smoke, to leather, to light soy and sautéed mushroom. Deep as a glacial crevasse, it still has substantial structure that will carry the wine for years to come. I am not the biggest fan of Northern Rhône Syrah, but this is spectacular.

December 3, 2023 - Decanted for around 4 hours and drunk over several hours at dinner.

Black pepper, rare venison, violets and dark fruits on the nose. More brooding and deeper than the Benetiere served with it. Still youthful with an expansive palate presence. It's deep and structured, yet with the approachable giving nature the vintage. Some flesh without any flab or heat. Terrific texture. Savory and soil more than earth driven. Some salt cured olives on the back end. Drinking very well in a youthful mode, but I will hold my next bottle for a couple years. 94+

A terrific pairing with kafta, lamb chops and assorted other Mediterranean fare

November 18, 2023 - Poured next to the 2012. Two very different sides of Gonon. This smells like sweet blueberry pie filling, with commensurately glossy, fleshy fruit on the palate but leaning more towards the salty and savory than the sweet. Interesting to revisit my note on release from 2013 as it is definitely still on the same theme but the gushing fruit is perhaps even more center stage.

November 17, 2023 - Classic Northern Rhone with notes of game, smoked meat, olives. More airy than the 2012 poured next to it with a bit of an acidic lift as well. Showing well now and will hold for 10 years or more.
