October 15, 2020 - (no formal tasting notes)

Decanted for two hours and drank with a grilled ribeye. Beautifully perfumed with black currant, tobacco, spice box, herbs, earth, and some subtle red bell pepper jam. Great fruit concentration but also rather savory, as a Santa Cruz cab should be. Full bodied, with silky tannins, refreshing acidity, seamless alcohol (13.5%), and a long finish. A very special bottle of wine that is drinking wonderfully right now in its middle age!

April 11, 2020 - 13.3% abv. Dark ruby, expressive aromatics. On the palate, cassis, ripe plum, mint and graphite. Tannins mostly resolved, very suave, deep and long. This wine is still vibrant, probably not yet at its peak. A genuine pleasure to drink.

October 6, 2019 - I let it breath in the bottle for 2 hours prior to opening. Well balanced with good fruit. Not much complexity. Little tannins remaining. Would drink up.

March 5, 2019 - This was solid, but still young. The nose has an initial note of vanilla and oak, followed by dark fruits, bell pepper, dill, herbs, and spice box. The palate is nicely balanced with good fruit, nice acidity, and well integrated structure. Overall I think this is not bad, but it needs to integrate the oak a bit better for me. Likely will in time, maybe another 5-10 years.

Better on night 2 with the nose a bit more integrated, palate still balanced and the juicy acidity keeps this energetic. For my palate this is peaking in a decade.

July 23, 2018 - Smells like Cab! Black cherry and a plush ripeness in the palate. Some light cedar. Enjoyed this, as it is just modern enough to have a CA flair but also restrained enough to appeal to my older school profile.
