July 21, 2023 - Grenache Night 2023 (Black Sheep, Santa Barbara, CA): In 2016, I predicted this wine would have a longer life than did Mr. Galloni. Looks like I was wrong. Ripe and rich but what i remember as sweet red fruit and orange peel has given way to oak notes and heat on the finish. Not a bad wine, just much weaker than it once was, at least for this bottle.

January 1, 2023 - What a stunning floral nose! At twelve years of bottle age this is still in great condition. A recent purchase from BWG proved a great decision as this purchase was a trio of Keplinger bottlings. Caldera, Basilisk & Red Slope. All from 2010.

A tick behind the Red Slope this provided great enjoyment. Definitely making it a goal to buy these each year and stash them away.

    In a great drinking window.

December 4, 2019 - Delicious! This was a 'spare' bottle that was opened at the end of the night when all the others in the lineup were dry. Ideally, this could have used some time more to open up but it was post midnight so it was a pop and pour. Big but elegant, specifics escape me beyond that after the late night.

July 18, 2019 - Similar notes to last tasting. Shows no signs of age. Dark plums, violets, some fig liqueur and burnt caramel notes.
Palate is a monster and shows massive black fruits up front, dark slightly sweet spices and more floral components. Long finish.
    Very rich and teeth staining.

December 3, 2018 - Definitely let this wine breath a bit. I agree that this wine was disjointed at first pop and still after an hour. However around the 3 hour point the edges softened, the red fruits blossomed. The wine had good structure but you can tell it was teetering on becoming syrupy. I personally prefer Grenache to be on the leaner side (ie the Vermillion label), but overall this was a good wine.
