September 11, 2020 - From magnum. This is an extremely and surprisingly drinkable wine that hits all the Sangiovese high points. I was sorta dreading this for five reasons: (i) 2007 Brunello and Chianti are generally not so great and out of balance (too ripe and alcoholic). (ii) the bottle says 15% alcohol, (iii) I usually don’t enjoy “Riserva” BdM, as it’s typically either too dense and over-concentrated, or dried out and unpleasant, (iv) the notes here suggest exactly what I have been worried about, and (v) it’s a whole magnum, and even if I don’t live it, I’ve gotta drink it to punish myself for buying it. But it rocks. Red cherry, solid acidity, alcohol really doesn’t show, and it’s just tasty stuff. The tannin is a bit too strong and definitely dried the mouth over multiple glasses. But overall certainly exceeded my expectations. I would have given this a 94-95 point score because the drying tannin really doesn’t bother me, but it is probably a bit out of balance and my guess is that the wine may dry out with another 6-10 years of age so I’d drink it over the next 5, and from 759ml maybe sooner.

January 6, 2020 - Ready to drink. I wouldn’t wait longer. Plenty of fruit but some funk that didn’t blow off. The acidity was a bit much. The wine is delicious but just a bit disjointed. A common theme in 2007 from my experience.

May 25, 2019 - Red berries and spice. still quite youthful and would seem that it can certainly withhold several more years in bottle. probably reevaluate in 4-5 years.

May 26, 2018 - Pulled cork two hours before- great balance, full bodied, very smooth, in prime, great fruit and will hold for 10 plus years with ease.

November 23, 2017 - Nose: The nose is savory and fresh with sour red cherries, lavender, raspberries, licorice, rose petals, tobacco, black tea, savory notes, and perfumes. The nose is layered with an understated ripeness.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. The feel is deft and silky with sour red cherries, lavender, licorice, savory tones, tobacco, and rose petals with a touch of leather.

Overall: This is drinking beautifully right now. It took about 2 hours to open up, but it revealed a beautiful and understated side.

December 11, 2016 - Very interesting wine. Decanted for 8-9 hours. Virtually nothing going in when I opened it. Ruby red. After decant, nose of dark fruits, strawberry, herbs, vanilla, oak, tobacco. Very savory wine. Amazing texture. Very velvety. Tannins are approachable and medium acidity. This could easily be a 93+ in my book in the coming years. It needs more time.

May 3, 2016 - I had a bottle a few years ago. It was then a bit closed. Now after a few hours in the decanter it has gorgeous aromatic intensity. Very nice
