February 11, 2024 - Loads of herbes de Provence, BBQ roasted meat, sandalwood… Uper delicate, feminine, strawberries, sappy, salty red cherries
May 7, 2023 - I clearly had a bad bottle last time. This one hit on all cylinders tonight…outstanding!
March 20, 2023 - Aromas: Menthol, Cassis, Stewed plum, tobacco, cedar, Brambles, spice.
Medium Plus body, medium acidity. Tannins slightly grippy still.
More red than dark fruit on the tongue. Finish was quite long.
Overall, quite decent. However, this was too big and cloying for me.
March 12, 2023 - It is a bit thinner on the body than other Mon Aieuls as I remember from the past.
90 minutes - 2 hours in the decanter blew away a little bit of funk
Really liked it, doesn't taste as high alcohol as you'd expect
Drinking nicely over the next 5 years I'd wager
February 24, 2023 - Having tried the wine on opening I found it a bit tight and also got some heat from the alcohol. Left in in the decanter for 2 hours and it was spot on in my opinion. Garrigue, leather and spice on the nose, as well as bit of funkiness which I actually quite liked. On the palate it was full bodied with a luscious, velvety mouthfeel. Tannins are integrated. The alcohol was much less noticeable after some air, which considering the 15% ABV is pretty impressive. Flavours of plum, black cherry, black fruits. Good concentration.
April 1, 2022 - no score given as the tasting situation was not well suited. felt a little light when first opened and by the time it had settled and gained depth my taste buds were shot.
March 26, 2022 - Pepper, spice, liquorice. Hot Rhône hillside. Roasted herbs.
Wonderful balance; acid and tannins are harmonious making this an edgy but refined wine.
Lovely stuff!
March 1, 2021 - Pnp. Floral notes in time emerge. Black raspberry, briar, spices. Medium body. Balanced and smooth with good acidity. Integrated tannins and a medium length finish. Tasteful Grenache paired well with a hamburger salad.
February 5, 2021 - Chateauneuf shootout...
2012 Usseglio Mon Aieul vs 2015 Cristia VV...
UMA....deeper fruit, licorice, garrigue aplenty
CVV...brighter red fruit, some spice.....
Both good length but couldn’t be more different....both 100% Grenache...
PNP notes above....AIRTIME Notes below....
UMA....nose not changed much...licorice and herb and deep red fruit
Now more fruit forward, deep raspberry, little cassis, spice and garrigue
tannins present and firming....great ..gained weight and heft....
CVV.....nose is noticeably different..just cleaner brighter fresher...and all that red fruit....now better finish..gaining ground on the UMA...just nice pristine red fruit...91
November 17, 2020 - Pretty similar to previous.....I think this wine is getting past prime..
It’s mostly secondary flavors and the fruit I love in CDP is faded...
