December 21, 2015 - Dark for a Barbera, fragrant cherry and floral nose. The cherry and a hint of raspberry follows through on the palate. The acids are out of balance with the slight tannins, leaving a harsh finish. There are better value Barbera's out there to enjoy.
February 8, 2015 - Brought this to my spouse's friend's housewarming.
Dark purple in colour, with notes of dark ripe fruits (plums and blackberries) and oak on the nose.
On the palate this wine has a good fruit structure balanced with acidity and body. The presence of oak adds a level of maturity and complexity to the wine. After 30 minutes in the glass, notes of cigar box and tobacco were evident. The finish is rounded and smooth and elegant with a touch of black pepper.
This wine is an all rounder and resembles a Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot more than a Barbera. On the whole this is a highly enjoyable wine.
November 1, 2014 - Mörkt röd med en rosalila kant. Doften är mer robust än elegant, fylld med mörka bär, fikon, kanel, rök och lite läder. Massor med syra, lingon och mörka plommon i smaken, måttliga nästan osynliga tanniner och en liten sälta som påminner om Blaufränkish (!?). Gott men kanske inte riktigt värt de knappa 200 det kostar på SB. Saknar DET i vinet
October 9, 2014 - A good example of textbook barbera, notes of cherry, cigar box and some spice backed by a well balanced and moderately structured wine. Slightly pricey for what you're getting, but that's Pio.
August 11, 2014 - This a really nice wine. I really can not pick out any distinct fragrance on the bouquet. I asked my wife and she said it smells like wine. So it smells good and it tastes really good. It has a richness to it that defies description It is a bit peppery around the edges with a real dense lush mouthfeel. The finish is dry and long and wonderfully pleasant. It has great legs in the glass. This is one of my favorite Barberas. Close your eyes and imagine you are sitting outside in the warm sun in Italy and this wine will take you there.
June 21, 2014 - Dark bluered colour.
Nose shows soil and sweetness of cherries.
The palate is soft with a smooth and long lasting sweet finish of cherries.
