September 15, 2023 - Dense, slightly translucent ruby. Nicely dark fruited. Densely silky, really quite a bit of depth here. Persistent too. With air, there’s a touch of vintage character coming through on the nose with camphor and lavender though the palate remains nicely dark fruited without untoward savouriness. Very attractive and a serious side of Charmes. ****

February 24, 2020 - Quite a showing for a such a young Charmes! From what I recall, HB’s Charmes parcel(s) are among the oldest of the domaine, period. This is quite open for the first 40 minutes and almost surprisingly this appealing; lots of Chambolle character with violet infused raspberry and strawberry fruits mixed with minty herbs, sandalwood, some intriguing wood smoke aromas that, perhaps, suggest the barest hints of souls bois forming in the glass. Soft, delicate tannin. Delicious at the moment. 92+

July 29, 2018 - Even ruby. Strong, rather disgusting wintergreen and camphor to the exclusion of anything else. Round, medium bodied. Actually quite good concentration of ripe cherry and a touch of earth. The more astringent green elements are nowhere near as prominent as on the nose, but they do come up in the end. Illuminating wine for me in terms of the trajectory of 2011 Burgundy. I loved it early in 2014 and noted a faint but not bothersome smell of "fennel" last year. Unfortunately, the pyrazine profile has gotten much worse over time. It's easy to bash the professional critics for missing this flaw early on, but I too was excited enough by my early tasting to buy this. My mistake-down the drain.

March 21, 2017 - Lighter color. The nose is inviting, showing aromas of ripe red fruits, spice, flowers and minerals. This is medium bodied on the palate with good concentration but very good finesse. The fairly long finish features nice balance and ripe tannins. A bit one dimensional but very expressive...

March 10, 2017 - La Paulee de NY - Verticals Tasting (Rainbow Room - NYC): tasted at large walkaround tasting. a little underripe, this has a green streak to it, with sharp acids throughout the attack, midpalate, and finish. leaner, without much of the red fruit.
