June 10, 2015 - Caveat emptor on this note as I have heretofore had fewer than 10 or so bottles of blaufrankisch (and most of those were Italian; one was Californian), but wow, based on this one I've got to dig deeper into Burgenland's offerings. On day one the wine was enjoyable but a bit tight and the acids were prominent; on day two the wine had opened up considerably, with a nose of black pepper, woodsiness, dark cherries and soy. On the palate the wine was rather full-bodied, very spicy, with cherry, currant and dark berry notes and some vanilla on the finish, but all surrounding a nice bright core of acidity. In some ways it reminded me of a good lagrein, though given the spicy-berry-vanilla flavor profile and fairly significant level of extraction, it also had me thinking of it as the more sophisticated European cousin of a California fruit bomb. Great with heartier foods, or by itself. I have no real experience on how well blaufrankisch can age, but based on this wine's structure and day-2 performance I'd be very surprised if it didn't evolve nicely for at least another 6 or 7 years.

March 22, 2013 - A wine produced biodynamically and spontaneous fermentation. Matured in large & small wooden barrels.
Notes of blueberry, wild cherry, leather and wild herbs on the nose.
Fresh, clean and silky fruit driven palate with notes of cherry, red currant and a bit of salt at the end. Lovely sweet-sour taste. Good acidity.
Would perfectly match with some lamb or a dish with poultry. Great price-performance ratio!
