November 24, 2021 - Some bottle variation between the two bottles consumed. The first had some funk and potential spoilage. The second had a muted nose, and was a mostly earth driven pretty wine with nice secondary flavors developing.

August 27, 2021 - Dirty diaper and VA nose, this was a very poor showing. Some nice black cherry fruit if you focused hard and tried to ignore the awful nose. I'm guessing this bottle wasn't the best provenance, what a shame.

June 8, 2019 - Medium ruby center with fading only at the extreme rim. After being open but not decanted for an hour, some stemmy tones, a bit of game, black licorice, and blackberry on the nose. By the second pour, though, some spice burst forth and the fruit seemed redder. Medium weight, great acidity, beautiful sap, and a consistent vein of fine soil. Still a good dose of tannin and a squirt of citrus peel. This sweetened and grew softer over several hours as the acidity folded in. Outstanding if not sublime, and we felt very lucky to have such a positive experience with a wine that has been so variable for others. Bottles of this quality could easily see out another decade.

March 7, 2019 - Zachys La Paulée BYO Dinner (Lafayette NYC): Subdued aromatics. Palate is better with good brightness and delineation. But short of high expectations of this label.

March 7, 2019 - Zachys La Paulée "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Late night. A wine that has often underperformed from US bottles imported at release. Another such example. Nose better than palate, but a bit disjointed.

Burgundy-Report

(Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Vieilles Vignes) A vintage of hail, this was the 'two-week triage with tweezers' harvest. Only 15 hl/ha (Bonnes-Mares was down at 9!). I've read reports that this is not a typical Chambolle but on this performance it is a fantastic wine. Looks younger than the '88 Bonnes-Mares that precedes it, but despite both depth and an engaging complexity after the previous wines the nose is relatively understated. The palate is dense without being fat, well delineated and shows a little rasp to the the tannins in the finish - but it's a long and tasty finish. This wine still seems to speak of more to come in the future. Whilst the '99 certainly has an extra flourish on the finish, side-by-side I'm surprised to see a little more intensity to the fruit of this wine. Luckily I've tasted (actually drunk with dinner) this wine twice in just over a year and this was a consistent showing. Very fine wine.
