June 20, 2022 - Six and a half years after the prior: This has developed beautifully. Spicy nose, carrying on. A pleasant hint of barnyard. Suggestions of tertiary characteristics. Beautifully balanced, with fine acid backbone. Savory, with some suggestions of light balsamic. Elegant tannins. Lovely lingering finish. This was super over three nights, gassed (as we usually do) in between. We have one left, and will try to wait a few years.

November 20, 2020 - Drank over two nights, pouring the first night from Coravin, popping the cork the second night. Sipped over a couple of hours before and during a meal the first night and again the second night. I really loved this as it unfolded and changed over time. Beginning with waffs of smoke, floral notes, dried herbs and hints of mushroom, into pipe tobacco, old library leather, and then some iron rust; with time in the glass, and particularly on the second night, umami - soy, sous bois, and some gaminess. I really enjoyed it all. Very nice pairing with duck breast the second night.

    Nice sub-$40 value from Envoyer.

October 27, 2019 - Fresh out of the bottle - rich, delicious fruit (denser than I expected), gorgeous acidity, sweet spicy nose. Very enjoyable with burger. 6 hours later, out of the fridge - still a lot of fruit, but the acidity was more prominent. The next day, a backbone of minerality (not really a word!) with slender fruit gave it a bit more character; but it was more fun the first evening. A very good value and a fun wine.

October 17, 2019 - Opened yesterday, had a half a glass and put back into fridge. 2nd day review. Bottle being open for 3 hours and in my glass for an hour. Slightly orange around the edges. A very good atypical Vosne nose. If I could go back in time I would have bought another 6 bottles. Not to much red fruits left. A rich, thick wine on the sweeter side.Slight bitter black tea oak finish that makes me think this won't get any better. Seems to be slightly less alcohol which I think is dues to the vintage if I remember correctly. I like it ! A good midweek drinker.

    July 14, 2019 - 2011 Jean Tardy Vosne-Romanee “Vigneux”

Considerably more evolved than in the fall, and showing more truly to its appellation. This is somewhat rustic, but also dense, and layered. While I like it very much, could see it not being everyone’s cup of tea. Speaking of tea, there are ample black tea notes on the finish here. This is good now, and I expect it will be better with time.

In the bigger picture, I think 2011 is underrated, but I also understand why some don’t prefer it. There can be a lot of acidity in these wines, they’re not particularly accessible in their youth. It lacks the ripeness that seems to draw the big numbers from reviewers. But so far I find myself liking it much as I have several other “lesser” vintages.

December 19, 2018 - PnP, consumed in a zalto burg. Improved over the course of several hours.

This wine is in a pleasing state of freshness with some evident early secondary development. Ruby color is starting to show soft shades of brown at the edges. Bouquet is gentle and with impressions of cranberry and saddle leather. There is harmony between fruit and acidity on the midpalate. Tannins appear to be resolving and the resultant wine is ready to drink over the next 3 years. Nice showing for a village Vosne. It's a masculine expression, but a refined one for me. Good buy from Envoyer at $39

November 18, 2018 - Raspberry liqueur aroma, palate more restrained dominated by mineral. Doesn't strike me as Vosne, if I had been served blind would have guessed Gevrey. This is young, give it 3-5 years, and hopefully it will be more true to its appellation.

September 13, 2016 - From a vineyard below Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Jean Tardy's parcel is located towards Les Suchots. 30-year-old vines. Consumed over three nights.

Bright red. Expressive nose of red berries (cherries mostly), sweet spices and light touches of smoke. Medium-bodied, nicely fruity with smooth tannins and very good acidity that adds a lot of freshness. Good volume and concentration for a villages. Impeccable balance. Finishes quite long.

Some oak influence notable on day one but the oak blew off quickly. Not much change on days two and three. Overall a harmonious and very fine example of a Vosne villages. Open for business now. 91+

December 30, 2015 - Medium ruby. Balanced, smoothly spicy, a touch of richness, but with good acidity. A bit of forest, but no funk. It got only better over four nights. Very nice stuff.
