June 13, 2017 - A bouquet of dark fruits, earth and roast meats - unmistakable old world syrah on the nose. Mature - soft, medium bodied, with an approachable palate of dark fruits, raspberry and savory with a pleasant longish finish. Good for the vintage. I've done well with the producer, and I think they are decent choice for those seeking a syrah with old world balance and a touch more fruit.

September 30, 2016 - the ferrous tang and juicy fruit that could only be Syrah; leans more toward new world than old, but good QPR in an ocean of average St. Joseph

February 25, 2016 - Blinds at Californios - 6 (Californios SF): This is ridiculously jammy and New World. Acid-deficient and with very little varietal character that I could pick out. Maybe I'm a little miffed because I missed this so badly blind, but I re-tasted it and I really don't think I could have gotten to N. Rhone even if I'd known it was Old World.

    Visual

    - clear, bright
    - moderate minus ruby to a red rim
    - no gas or sediment
    - moderate viscosity

    Nose

    - clean, moderate intensity
    - red fruit - indistinct cherry
    - woody, stemmy herbaceousness that I can’t place
    - cherry jam, strawberry jam
    - low impression of earth
    - no oak on the nose
    - moderate minus complexity

    Palate

    - dry with a slightly ripe attack (no overt RS like on the last wine, but ripe)
    - elevated alcohol - 14.5% (actually only 13.5%)
    - medium acid
    - diminished tannins
    - echoes the jammy fruit on the nose
    - smuckers strawberry jam
    - no notable herbaceousness, earth, or oak - neutral barrels

    Initial

    - New world wine from a warm climate
    - with medium acid and red fruit and slightly lower color:
    - CA Zinfandel - I’d expect higher acid and millerandage
    - Grenache from Australia
    - There’s an herbaceousness that I’m not sure what to call

    Final

    - Grenache > Australia > McLaren Vale, 2013
    - actual: Coursodon Saint-Joseph 2011
    - I retasted this and no way in a million years would I have gotten to N. Rhone.
    - There’s no earth, it’s acid-deficient and jammy. No Syrah secondaries.

March 22, 2015 - Drank this alongside a 2011 Guaspari Vista da Serra - the same vintage but that's where the similarity ends. The St. Joseph was far more delicate with less fruit and oomph. The Coursodon was very good, make no mistake; however, it was overshadowed by the big, rich, spicy Guaspari.

October 12, 2014 - Light reddish color. Nose is red fruit and creme, a bit of spiciness, soap, clay, bit of leather. Fine hint of chocolate flavors . Pretty standard. Acid is medium, weight is light for a red. A bit bitter.
