September 1, 2019 - Opened with this one, while waiting for the others to aerate. Not a bad strategy. This showed well as the opener, but just didn't have the depth of the 96 Pontet Canet or the 95 Montus we were decanting ...

June 6, 2019 - Garnet color. Nose of currant, damp earth, beef blood, cassis. Hedonistic and ripe on the palate with loads of red currant, sauvage elements, cassis, green pepper, and meaty tones. Moderate acidity and unobtrusive tannin. Longer finish of red currant and slow sweet grip. Half bottle consumed at KOA campground in the shadow of Devils Tower, paired with grilled tenderloins. Super! From a 375.

March 25, 2019 - 1995 Bordeaux (Beautiful Solvang, CA): Slow-ox'ed for six hours. Not the best bottle, but still fascinating to me. Signs of seepage, and a brittle cork which broke on extraction. It took a while for some bretty funk to blow off. I found the aromatics fascinating: layered black fruit with some mocha. More of the same on the palate, plus some evident minerality. More restrained than extracted, so maybe the poor storage muted the wine's reputed excesses?

November 29, 2018 - Out of mag. Silky smooth...no noticeable tannins...Really drank well with food. most 95s for me have been somewhat disappointing, but not this one...

November 25, 2018 - Drank at my 50th. Cedar, forest floor, sweet fruit. Resolved tannin, great finish. Very popular drink, enjoyed by all. Cork fell apart, need an Ah-so.

(Chateau Troplong-Mondot St Emilion) A deep, glossy hue. Full, ripe, smoky berry fruit. Ripe, creamy, sweet palate. Lovely fruit, but still showing some awkward youth, with the wood still quite evident and rather obvious alcohol. It has good potential though. Drink three to four years from now.
