December 25, 2018 - Big nose with sweet cherry liqueur, a hint of herbs. On the palate, good acidity, more sweet cherry liqueur and no tannin on the finish. Slightly harsh on the finish.

April 21, 2016 - Hour and a half decant, the nose is filled with dark fruit and vanilla with no savoriness involved. The palate is potent, with blueberry, blackberry and oak, with a clove element popping up. The acidity is edgy but is in sync with the structured tannins. Air time is required to tone down the tannins, once this happens it leaves a full bodied, well made wine in its wake. First time trying a wine with varietals that generally speaking are targeted for use in port (other than the tempranillo and touriga nacional).

May 29, 2014 - Dark and red fruits, some vanilla, smoke and chocolate. Spicy on the palate with intensive fruit and good balancing acidity. Obvious influence of the american oak here. Enjoyed the first two glasses but then it somehow lost my attention and it didn't seem very appealing anymore.

March 8, 2013 - Opaque, unctuous, inky black-purple color. A bit restrained and nuanced nose with aromas of fresh dark fruits, floral complexity, some herbal coolness and a hint of cool stones. Quite dry, somewhat soft and pretty full-bodied on the palate with nuanced flavors of tart plums, bitter spices, dusty earth, brambly blackberries, some dried dates, light minty herbal notes and a hint of restrained oak. Firm, grippy tannins. The finish is quite bitter and medium in length with flavors of woody oak, dried herbs, some peppery spice, a little sour plums and a hint of vanilla.

A balanced, well-made Douro table red that shows restraint, power and balance without excessive use of oak or too ripe fruit - despite the hot year. Not that memorable now, but might grow into something better with cellar age.
