February 16, 2018 - Like it again. Not great but very good.

October 26, 2017 - Flight home (Qatar Business class): aromas of blackcurrant, sweet spice, cocoa powder and slightly pyrazine. On the palate a blackcurrant core with dry, talc textured tannins and a little cedar. Still very primary.

October 18, 2017 - Classic Bordeaux, tar, pencil lead, dark fruits, stiff tannins, good acidity. Still really young.

    September 14, 2017 - A vertical tasting of Branaire Ducru in 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
Generally, 2011, 2012 and 2014 are not much different, and 2014 may be a little bit better than other two. Some aromas, some fruit and mineral on the palate, but all not impressive. Not quite balanced and short finish. So I would give 90 scores to both 2011 and 2012, and 91 to 2014.
2005 and 2010 are much better than these three, with stronger nose and more tasty, and much longer finish. However, 2010 is quite perfectly balanced and 2005 is a little bit weak on this point. So 94 for 2010 and 93 for 2005.

April 9, 2017 - Good wine, was surprised about the older, lower ratings.

(Château Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)) Some beautiful fruit here, scents of lifted black cherry, vanilla, cream, this feels exuberant and stylish. Rich and quite seductive on the palate, full, with evident grip coming in beneath giving the plush fruit some backbone. Lots of extract here, but the wine manages to keep the tannins well packed in underneath what is a very plush and textured style. It has a lovely ripe finish in the end. I like this very much, but it is a rather sweet and flattering style. Very good potential here, but it feels a touch atypical perhaps - but I think that is a mark of the vintage more than anything else.

(Château Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)) A really corpulent feel to the fruit on the nose here, in keeping with the voluptuous black cherry fruit I found en primeur. This has the same black cherry fruit. The palate has all the oak lactones I found last time, together with the soft blackberry fruit coming in behind, and lots of ripe and substantial tannins. These compete with the wood at present to be the most domineering force. The acidity, by comparison, is rather soft, and the finish is unsurprisingly loaded with tannic grip.
