March 7, 2020 - Still a bit sharp, but improved after the bottle being open for 1 hour. In appearance rather young, with a mid purple look and a modest nose. Developing complexity, with red fruit, vanilla, and a touch of leather and chocolat. And a smooth and long finish. Very well made!

February 12, 2020 - Uncorked ≈75 min prior; Private Preserve after Day 1

“Composed of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, & 10% Mourvedre, from vines ave 45 yrs of age, & yielding around 2 tons/acre. They purchase as soon as possible after harvest, often before malolactic fermentation is finished, so that they can select what they believe are lots with the potential to become great wine. Their Châteauneufs spend a minimum of 2-3 years in large oak casks, followed by extended bottle aging.”

N: Fragrant flowers (violets?) somewhat atop ripe (wild?) straws & iron with garigue coming on

P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which morphs into a LONG, VERY slightly tangy finish with a bitter/swtness & ult pleasant aspect to the firming, very, VERY fine tannins. // Day 2: Held nicely, today showing blk cherry frt, the good acidity going well with tonight's COSTCO Eggplant Parmigiana & Chicken Piccata. Imagine a *powerful* CdR (as opposed to clunky, overripe CdP) & you'll have an idea of the mouthfeel/texture of this. Drink now & through '22 safely, poss longer? [This bottle had < "ideal" storage, which I'm including in my consideration.] 14.5% ABV; My EXC-/EXC. // Day 3: Poss even better? I'm upgrading to EXC & thinking I probably should have decanted it (though NOT the amt of time for which I'd uncorked it. 93 pts ea Wine & Spirtis and WA, 90 winealign.com (12/8/16), 4*(*)/5 drinkrhone.com, + other scores on wine-searcher's Tasting Notes pg. [As of early Mar '20, wine-searcher still shows numerous sources from $40 - $53, this bottle having been purchased @ COSTCO for $37.99 in 2016].

    Note: 1st tasted on 10/6/16

June 19, 2019 - With Guigal I think of Cote Rotie brune et blonde, perhaps the LaLa’s (too expensive for me :), not so much C9dP: yet a fine C9dP, dried fruit, leather, black currant, peach, cherry, medium body, soft espresso note, solid strong finish

May 19, 2019 - Decanted several hours and served with braised lamb. Sweet and sour red berries with earthy gravitas and an herbal / morel mushroom umami top note. Drink remainder 2020-2030.
