March 25, 2020 - This is good, serious, full-bodied Brunello. Our bottle was in the state where the fruit is fading but the tertiary characteristics have not yet manifested. We tasted it after a 2 1/2 hour decant. The nose was shy. The palate was dominated by leather and black cherry, with less prominent flavors of iron and tobacco.
If I had more bottles of this one I would wait about 5 years for the tertiary flavors to appear, before opening. It has the stuffing to last for years.
December 25, 2019 - Wine was tight upon opening but it was drinking better at 2 hours. Then WOW it really improved after 4 hours and was delightful pairing with filet mignon Christmas dinner. Based on needing 4 hours to open, I think there is no rush to drink this wine.
December 17, 2019 - Conflicting notes here. This is a beautiful wine that is simply over-oaked. ‘08 simply doesn’t have the ‘stuffing’ for the 42 months of large oak barrels Lisini uses. A dark, deft brooding nose of warm, dark cherry, violets and roses. Satisfying deep flavors w/super acids, but the finish screams and dryness with a mean and bitter finish. Having said all this, the Lisini name will never deliver a bad Brunello. It’s good—But drink it NOW while the fruit still sings.
November 14, 2019 - Medium ruby color with mild bricking
Medium aromas of red and black fruit with underlying tobacco and earth
Medium palate which really echoes aromas
Medium plus fine grained tannins which are quite well integrated
Medium plus acidity and really nice length
Only complaint is that ETOH is a little high and seems out of balance
That being said, this was a really pleasant and well balanced wine which would have been much better with food
Drinking well now but prob room for more improvement
Previous tasting revealed some offputting aromas to say the least, but based on today that must have been a corked bottle
November 13, 2019 - Single blind tasting.
Dark garnet color.
Medium aromatics. No oak. Earth, tobacco, leather, dark plum and cherry.
Medium palate with medium + acidity, medium + tannin and medium + alcohol. Cherry is main feature with no secondary notes.
Finish is medium with a balanced, well integrated tannin to acidity. A little lacking in the palate regarding fruit and secondary characteristics. Still a nice but not exceptional example of Brunello.
October 17, 2019 - This continues to be in a good spot for drinking with minimal air. Mildly sweet red fruits, rounded tannins, and a moderate level of acidity (especially for a Brunello) contribute to its approachability and easy pleasure. I don’t see any upside to continuing to cellar this wine, so drink up.
September 29, 2019 - In a perfect place. Great fruit, old world leather and herb and mineral complexity.
September 15, 2019 - At 11 years old, it is showing its age a bit on the edges, which is reflected in the well integrated flavors of this medium body BdM. Nicely layered flavors of cola, black cherry and leather with a cigar box finish -- well integrated and drinking well after just 20-30 minutes of air. Good QPR.
July 9, 2019 - Just as good as I remember. This wine really seems to hit its stride about 4 hours after decanting. Before that, it's just very good. But, everything really comes together nicely with a stern decant, so that it hits a high point of fruit, secondary flavors, and great texture (just right tannins and acidity). While it's my last bottle of this 2008, I have several of the 2010 and 2013 vintages, so I'm not entirely despondent. Good price, too, for a BdM of this quality.
July 6, 2019 - Decent Brunello. Took about an hour or two to open up. Developing some tertiary characteristics.
