March 7, 2013 - Farewell to Josh - the burbs have him now. (L'Artusi Restaurant, West Village, Manhattan): Intoxicating and beautifully perfumed nose of meat, spice, blood, brown sugar, (red apple skins - Matt), iron, minerals, worsterchester sauce, a touch of heat. It's the type of nose you want to just dive into and lose yourself in. This is a pristine bottle, and what a thrill. The palate is nearly as good with stewed tomato, iron, minerals, cherry, stones. Very pure - salty and saline with real persistence. Just delicious. It loses a little in the finish, which is still great and shows saline, iron. blood and cherries. What is really striking is how this wine is both silky and elegant, but also has so much flavor. A wine of great class and complexity. My WOTN and clearly heads and shoulders above everything else. Nose - 6/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 2/6 = 18.5/20.

March 7, 2013 - Sending Josh off to the 'burbs (l'Artusi, NYC): Blood ruby, very deeply colored. Wonderfully restrained but rich nose of red apple skins and a touch of mature heat; hugely reminiscent of deep red tomato-basil soup, with enticing shifting notes of cinnamon and other baking spices. An absolutely freaking classic nose, jumping Jehoshaphat! Lovely. Iron, blood, and an amazingly fresh lift from... something magical somewhere. Wow! The palate is similar in every regard, then some tinned sardine (?), really nice -- umami, saline, smoky. Impeccable balance. Again: wow! Good to excellent length. Wonderful. Just exactly what it should be and I hoped for. Bravo!

June 25, 2012 - Huge wine, as you would expect, gorgeous but damaged somewhat by the overly firm acidity.
