June 26, 2019 - Fine Wines SG - Bordeaux 80s BYOB (Fine Wines SG): Nose is quite restrained, but a nice balanced palate, and rather mouthfilling, with blackberry, cassis, grass, tree bark and graphite. A good finish of chocolates and caramel

February 1, 2019 - Cork sank right into the bottle when trying to insert corkscrew. No signs of seepage, though. This is fully mature and at an advanced stage of development. It has the typical tannic structure of the 1986 vintage. Lots of leather and earth with dark cassis fruit typical for a right bank wine. Fresh acidity. A bit hollow on the finish but overall an enjoyable wine.

November 3, 2018 - This was the only wine of the tasting that I really had trouble with - I didn't think it was clearly cooked, thus the score, but it had a blackberry and seaweed nose; unexpectedly salty. Not a lot of movement in a positive direction over the 45 minutes it was in the glass.

November 3, 2018 - Very strong barnyard and brettanomyces notes on top, and the fruit was a bit figgy / cooked in character. Might be the character of the 86 right bankers to some degree, but more likely this was off.

May 11, 2018 - YB Birthday celebration. Double decanted through filter beforehand.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of leather, blackcurrant leaf/mint, blackberries, black cherries, black licorice, salty black tapenade. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.2%), fully integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of old leather, meat, blackberries, black cherries, licorice, earth. Long finish.
Very good quality. My final guess was 1986 Left Bank Bordeaux ?Saint- Julien. Time to drink up. Tertiary elements may overwhelm what is left of the black fruits soon.
