November 27, 2023 - Wine from my birth year and still standing strong. Impressive structure, can go one for decades. Not much fruit there, but this seems logical.

November 26, 2023 - This is an extraordinary wine by any measure. I've drunk a number of well-aged top bordeaux and burgundy - and this hits with almost all of them. Still dark red, little bricking. Nose a mix of dark stewed fruit, some tomato (!) and other vegetable, a bit of onion, leather, tobacco. Long finish. Great palate with considerable balance, incredible salinity.

May 21, 2023 - Fairly dark red color upon opening with only a small amount of bricking at the rim. Smells richly fruited and promising upon opening, but tastes thin, funky and acidic. Improves with an hour or two in the decanter. The thinness is gone, leaving an elegant mostly red fruited and floral wine (others here compare it to old Nebbiolo, which is a good comparison). Acidity remains high and there still some fine grained tannins present. There is a plethora of tertiary flavors as well, and an unfortunate note of dirty old leather on the finish that many old wines have. My hypothesis is that this is due to wine making techniques not as squeaky clean as today- maybe Brett? The dirty leather is covered up somewhat with food and it turns out to be a lovely dinner accompaniment. Not mind blowing in and of itself, but a rarity and certainly exciting to try.
