March 1, 2020 - Second of two bottles. 2" cork in good condition. Medium ruby, some sediment in glass and bottle. No notes from day 1 but for day 2, complex nose of red licorice, spice, tropical fruit, raisins, nuts, and with time in the glass, warm oak. Replays on the palate. Medium body, Medium + acid, XD, medium tannin. Medium-long finish. I would say this wine has improved since my first bottle in 2017, and will last for a few more years, but is probably at its peak.
October 28, 2019 - Decanted and served with grilled NY Strip steak. Compared to previous bottles, this was a bit less fruit forward and not as impressive. Still, a good, but not excellent inexpensive Bordeaux.
May 20, 2019 - 30 min decant. Impressive nose of blackberry with some nice secondary elements. Similar on the palate. Elegant with good balance, low acidity, gentle tannins on the finish. Great overall and drinking very well now.
January 27, 2019 - Good balance. Drinking well now.
October 12, 2018 - Good, but not great. Loved the 2010. This one took a bit...about 90 min...to open. Then released a bouquet of plum, peppermint and cinnamon, pipe tobacco clove and oak. Pleasant mouthfeel, balanced fruit and tannins, low to med acidity, with signature PL chalkiness. The finish doesn’t linger, though.
October 2, 2018 - Once opened, an aroma of oak, black currants, and tobacco fills the nose. On first sip, a wonderfully dark and rich Bordeaux. After decanting for a few hours, the wine became smoother with additional cherries and plums on the palate. A great everyday Bordeaux and well worth the money.
August 31, 2018 - Enjoyed over three days. I very much appreciated the traditional purity and rusticity of this wine. With many Bordeaux houses having gone full out internationally styled, or leaning that way, this wine delivers a pleasant reminder of all the finest hallmarks of old school Bordeaux. Blackcurrant is the principal fruit, and this wine of the earth also features strong Cabernet Sauvignon markers, root vegetables, cedar, black farm soil, and strapping Graves terroir, including robust charred earth elements. Balanced, deeply satisfying, and made for food. Still evolving, and likely to continue for several years. It should last through 2028. A 91 point offering on a great day, and 90 points on all others.
August 27, 2018 - Very nice and relatively inexpensive Bordeaux from Pessac Leognan. Well balanced, just a bit fruit forward, with balanced acidity and modest tannins. I think this is beginning to reach its peak drinking period, although it should continue to improve for a couple of years.
August 26, 2018 - Good wine, ready to drink...
June 5, 2018 - Great for an every day Bordeaux. Very smooth. Great flavor. Well worth the money.
