October 26, 2023 - Aromatic and deep, with silky, rich, & structured fruit. Immediately out of the bottle this was loaded with big chewy tannins. After an hour of air though, it became far more pretty and elegant as the tannins softened up. This is built for the long haul and will no doubt be really great in 10+ years, but with a little air it's lovely to drink today as is.
July 20, 2023 - Probably inching to 96 and holy smokes when I open th next bottle in 5-10 years !!
September 25, 2022 - Gentle, well integrated herbs, spices highlight the core of dried red fruits. Soft leather and savory smoke wrap up the finish on this beautiful glass.
This is a nice end of the evening as it carries enough complexity to keep you digging, while holding enough warmth to keep you comfortable.
February 22, 2022 - Un vin qui s’est présenté sous deux profils assez différents.
À l’ouverture une aromatique fine, travaillée autour du cassis, des notes fumées, un petit côté viandé, une puissance sensible mais contenue, dirigée, presque corsetée par l’élevage, c’est quand même la classe à Dallas.
Après une heure d’ouverture la GdP déboule à fond les ballons, anchois, orange sanguine, garrigue, la bouche s’élargit, un léger résiduel apparaît pour donner du confort, c’est long et sapide. Avec une épaule d’agneau c’est la grosse classe.
Une bouteille qui s’est présentée bien plus à son avantage que celle bue un an plus tôt.
February 19, 2022 - Le nez est discret, avec des aromes difficiles à cerner. Des dates, fruit noir, chocolat aux cerises, avec un côté fumé et ces notes familières qui m'évoquent le vinaigre balsamique.
La texture en bouche est magnifique et celle d’un très grand vin. Les tanins sont fondus, mais ils ont laissé derrière de la soie et de la dentelle pour se faire pardonner. La finale a une délicatesse et une précision émouvantes.
Si cette texture nous amènerait aisément sur une grande Côte Rôtie, l’aromatique elle ne ment pas et désarçonnerait qui n’y a pas déjà goûté. Je ne qualifierais pas ce vin de charmeur et il en dérouterait plusieurs avec ce profil aromatique original. Mais la texture témoigne d'une maitrise exceptionnelle. 94 pts
J’ai une pensée émue et respectueuse pour ce gentil monsieur qui m’avait reçu seul en 2011 pendant plus de deux heures, sans la moindre obligation de sa part. Un taiseux, courtois et humble. Merci Monsieur Vaillé de nous avoir légué ces grands vins.
November 17, 2021 - this was full bodied, best on night two, felt like the Syrah was upped and it didn't have the GdP Mourvèdre drive... while very nice, beautiful fruit it was a little 'simple' for my taste (vis a vis this wine historically)... also a little less acid than I expected / wanted (both for the drinking now and for aging purposes)
October 20, 2021 - Decanted for a good 30mins and advisable.
A touch better than the 93 we rated it a year ago for sure. Still very much on the fruit but also with some secondary feel coming to play. Lovely dark fruited nose, modern Burgundian in a way albeit of super different base, good rich and juicy but in no way heavy palate. A really impressive wine albeit with the recent price appreciation in this wine not sure when we will get to cross paths with it again. 94
September 5, 2021 - Chez Zim: Concentrated and structured, dark berries with spicy elements, dense and long, can go on for long years.
March 6, 2021 - Medium to dark red; special nose, vanilla combined with dark berries, some eucalyptus; very rich, ripe plum, lots of taste, fine acidity, elegant in its own way while lots of power; 10 years of age but believe it can easily go for the next 10 years, has so much going for it
May 22, 2020 - Big fan of this wine, and this bottle was singing. Dark fruits, big and bold aromas, palate is very smooth and developing some secondary notes. May improve, but in a great place.
