October 31, 2019 - Fine, elegante, inaspettatamente giovanile, frutti rossi, mora, mirtilli. nota lieve erbacea e minerale.Fragrante e disponibile. Grande equilibrio al palato, media struttura, tannini levigatissimi. Persistenza aromatica davvero notevole. Una perla che non mi attendevo a questi livelli, con ancora tanta strada davanti, nonostante abbia già passato il ventennio.

June 27, 2019 - The wine is very forward for its age, and this seems to be a common characteristic of left bank 1998s. I personally think that this has now reached its peak, and think it should be consumed over the next 3 years. This is contrary to some other notes, but the wine is showing tertiary characteristics, and indeed the fruit is beginning to be a little stewed on the palate. The wine is classic old style Bordeaux full of blackcurrant, plum and old leather, with floral overtones of violet, and drinks like a wine a decade or two older. The tannin is fully resolved, but does over intrude on the palate and finish. This is a great drink and represents everything that is so good about a fully mature Bordeaux. However, this is more about its maturity and approachability, than complexity and balance.

June 19, 2019 - Though it may sound obvious, the 98 GPL really is a nice synthesis of the fleshy (slightly flabby) 98s and the cassis, rose notes of GPL. Rich and ripe, this is actually showing quite well now. If not destined to be a particularly complex wine, at least destined to be one that's doing quite well for its station and vintage.

    March 16, 2019 - (Blind tasting)
Full, rich and expressive left-bank nose. Smoky and powerful. Cedar, dark fruit and all the classic hallmarks of a proper claret. Black currant and herbaceous notes. Very good depth.
Medium-fullish verging on fullish. Impeccable balance. Dense and deep. Black currant, gravel, oak, cedar in a very nice combination. Very good grip and long finish. Lacks some intensity and complexity for being really great. Drink now and a few years forward.
