Community Tasting Notes 25

February 25, 2023 - Popped and poured straight from the cellar after we finished a CdP. Served at about 60 F. Blind tasting for me, as my other wouldn't let us know what she grabbed. Rich ruby color. Grilled fresh side and tar on the nose, with bandaid, cedar and cranberry notes. Blackberry and raspberry fruit on the palate, notes of white pepper. Well-integrated alcohol, acidity has begun to fade a bit. Soft tannins, lingering finish.

March 16, 2022 - Another very enjoyable bottle. Rich, smokey nose with notes of tar, blackberry and a touch of alcoholic heat. There may be a bit or brett in this bottle as I detect some subtle dirty diaper and bandaid notes, but it is not obtrusive. Rich and full-bodied, but not over the top, and a very enjoyable New World syrah. This was sandwiched in between some Cornas and Cote Rotie, and while this is the more modern wine, it held up well in this company.

February 3, 2021 - Another very good showing for this wine. There is a bit of earth and cedary cigar leaf on the nose along with bright black raspberry fruit. Blueberries, violets and a bit of vanilla oak flavors on the palate. Finish is somewhat clipped, oaky, and with a slightly medicinal edge, but altogether, this is a very enjoyable wine. Fun fact: I own 1.8% of the total production of this wine, which I think is a record for me (runner up is 2001 Copain Hacienda Secoya at ~1.3%).
