Community Tasting Notes 3

December 16, 2005 - Dinner @ Phil and Jen's: Sunken cork had to be carefully worked out. Light and clear colour. Musty nose to start which cleared. Some aromatic acids, not really acetic, but defintely from the lab. Good bright elements and a resin-y finish which developed into something pleasant rather quickly. Very pure and unwavering. Minerality and thyme elements. No floral or fat Viognier stuff going on. Certainly sophisticated and a wine that required you to come to it rather than it giving to you. Still kept true hours (and other wines) later. A pleasure and rewarding.

December 16, 2005 - Dinner with Andrew and Elena (Columbus, OH): Very young looking by color. A bit musty and acetic, with a distinct pine resin note on the nose and some odd, almost autolysis notes. Little if any viognier character, a bit honeyed in a chenin blanc sort of way with a mineral backbone. Full of acid, and changes little in the glass over several hours. Interesting.

July 15, 1989 - With the gang at Brett Raven's housewarming. Bright, brilliant, pale straw color. Stinky at first, the nose cleared up very quickly to exhibit a unique bouquet, the dominant component spearmint. Light airy feeling to the nose. In the mouth, the wine is very complex. Initially I find the flavors unpleasant and slightly odd. But at mid-palate the wine changes to show a strong grilled almond flavor. The wine changed again after that. Really an extremely unique wine. 5-11-15-5: 86/100.
