April 4, 2018 - Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Crisscross (Private Location): I wasn’t sure if it was the right time to open up this guy but I decided to give it a try. The problem I have with Schäfer-Fröhlichs with some age, that I tasted recently is that they appeared quite ripe without the cut and precision they have when they are young. Also this Frühlingsplätzchen delivers lots of yellow ripe fruit in the beginning which gets better and better with more time in the glass. You then get some herbal notes too.
Quite light and also with a certain kind of sweetness (I’m not sure if this comes from a higher residual sugar or if the fruit is so ripe when Tim Fröhlich harvests and you just feel the wine is sweet but in reality it isn’t.) on the palate which turns into more & more minerality after some time. Also the elegance factor went up. I’m pretty sure, that this Frühlingsplätzchen just needs patience as all the Schäfer-Fröhlichs at a “midterm” status. Give it another five better ten years.

April 4, 2018 - Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group (@Private location): Glass: Riedel Vinum Riesling
Tasted blind. Clear, medium lemon-golden color. Clean, medium intense, youthful-developing nose with a nice fine yellow fruit, smoke, spices (anise, caraway) and a bit “dark” slate. Opens up with air and gets better and better over time. No sign of SF’s sponti stinker…
Dry, with some noticeable residual sugar. Medium acidity, perfectly integrated. 13% abv. On the palate rather young with still some slight tingling carbon dioxide bubbles. With air it develops a nice tension, is very elegant and balanced. Driven by mineral notes, woven with some fine, ripe yellow fruit and some spices and herbs. Medium+ finish. Still very young with a good potential. Give it 3-5+ years to develop. 91-92++

November 14, 2014 - An impressively fresh, yet rich bouquet of spicy floral notes, grapefruit, kiwi and an intense wave of minerals reached up from the glass. On the palate, it seemed poised to attack, yet held back in its youthful state, showing rich and supple textures with flavors of young peach, kiwi and minerals. However, you can sense the tension in this wine. On the finish, notes of grapefruit and exotic spice lingered long.

September 15, 2013 - Just some short notes made at the VDP Grosses Gewächs tasting in Frankfurt. A lot of yeast and apple in both the nose and the mouth. Not sure what to think. No score.
