September 24, 2020 - Clear as a bell, the central garnet showing slightly tawny at the rim. The nose is explosive, so much that the descriptor 'gunpowder' comes to mind. On the palate there's a simmering power, a spiciness that verges on fieriness, plenty of acidity and very fine - almost vanishing - tannins. The fruit is part of the seamless whole. No Sangiovese-related cliches of sour cherries will do: this is Vino Nobile and nothing else. At ten years, is it old? Certainly not. is it at its prime? Maybe just entering it. Keep another ten years at least... 14.5%, cork,. one of 6,666 bottles.

December 25, 2018 - Dark but translucent. A strong initial aroma of roast meat, followed by smoke. Pretty tannic, even after two hours decanting. Austere is a good word for it. In this style, a 93, though not a wine to seduce anyone who isn't already a fan of this style. With roast duck. Cork. 14.5%.

November 18, 2017 - Solid vino Nobile. Jammy with a thick mouthfeel.

August 22, 2016 - First time I've had this since a visit to the winery six or seven years ago. This wine always stayed in my mind, and I'm delighted it's now available in the UK. Youthful deep purple; attractive nose of sour cherries and sweet oak; smooth and persistent, very fine tannins, decent acidity. Next time I'll take better notes - this time I was just enjoying it. Cork, 14%, 'one of 6,666 bottles.'
