    February 27, 2024 - Opened in HK.

This was served blind to me originally, upon P&P. I couldn't guess, so was then served a fresh pour from half the bottle which was poured into a decanter instead.

My first guess went to Burgundy, as I genuinely thought this was a Pinot - and a very good one at that. Upon first pour from the bottle it was extremely lifted and elegant on the palate, and then there were expressive floral notes coming from the second pour from the decanter. I couldn't quite guess the village though, but gave a stab in the dark and guessed village Burg 2016 from top producer.

Was very pleasantly surprised when this was revealed to be an Allemand. This was also very different from my first experience with this producer a few months back (2010) which was much more closed and tight. What a wonderfully elegant Syrah! This did gain some weight with more air, and was showing some signature peppery notes after a while, and was otherwise excellent all round.

Drinking well now, but I imagine this will keep for many years at a top level at least. Thanks to M for sharing, as always!

November 15, 2023 - Lovely, layered nose with black fruits, olives and black pepper. Accents of warm earth and bloody meat. Full bodied with incredible intensity on the palate. Mouthcoating but fine tannins. Finishes very long. Offering a lot of pleasure now but will only get better with more time in the cellar.

    WSET Notes:

    Deep ruby.

Pronounced on the nose with blackberry, black cherry, black pepper, black olive, bloody meat, leather, clove and warm earth. Developing.

Pronounced and dry on the palate. Full body, medium alcohol, medium (+) acidity, high tannins, long finish.

Can drink now but has potential for ageing.

May 4, 2023 - Allemand Chaillot survey (Chicago, IL): There was a lot of debate at the table as to whether the 2012 or 2013 was preferred (they were served side-by-side). I waffled on this myself, as I thought the 2012 was showing very well right now as a wine for drinking. Ultimately, the longer-term potential rests with the 2013. But for now, the 2012 drinks like a less intense, more resolved, and less tannic version of the 2015. With air, some more olive/saline notes emerge on the nose. The fruit is rounded and plush, on the black side of the spectrum. There's modestly leathery tannins here, but not an overbearing amount. The ripe fruit gives this a sensation of sweetness that I quite like as well (me with the Parkerized palate these days, after all). A really good drinking vintage right now, but there's definitely enough fruit and tannin here that you would be rewarded for further aging this. And despite how well I liked this tonight, I'm inclined to age my bottles a little more.

March 5, 2023 - JQ wine. Rather rustic and still very tightly wound. No doubt a wine of some quality, but what it had to give at this moment was mostly primary and lacked the profundity of other wines on the table.

January 14, 2023 - Drinking my 2nd bottle of this. It’s even better than I remember. Similar nose and palate to prior but I feel is smoother and more sensual this time. I increase my score a point. I have said before but I ration my Allemand and Chave wines. They are the best of the best for me. If you enjoy Cornas this is a must try. I prefer the Reynard but this Chaillot is extremely good.
