    December 24, 2020 - Red Saint-Émilion. 13,5 % alcohol.

    Deep dark red color.

Delicious aromas of black fruit, walnuts and vanilla. Flavors of fresh and ripe blackberry and blueberry, vanilla, integrated cedar, herbs, walnuts.

Dry. Full bodied. Low acidity. Silky tannins. Perfect balance and structure. Very elegant. Complex.

Long finish with black fruit, vanilla and walnut.

    Simply delicious. 97/100

December 10, 2020 - Double decanted for 45 minutes, which should have been at least 1:30 or more. To my surprise it is still very fruit forward with many years left in its development. The wine just began to drink well at the end of a two hour lunch. 93+

December 7, 2020 - Felt a bit higher alcohol than the stated 13.5. At first I found the alcohol level slightly distracting but with some air it came round to offer deep truffle notes with healthy amount of red fruit. A nice mature if relatively full throttle Merlot experience.

August 24, 2020 - Bordeaux 1990 horizontal tasting (Fribourg): 1990 Bordeaux horizontal hosted by a private collector. 30 years down the road, the vintage comes across as bold and muscular, youthful and in general not yet open for business or at times closed. Highlights included Figeac, Haut-Brion, Mouton, Calon Ségur – and to my surprise – Marquis de Terme. See tasting story for more take-aways and the complete line-up.

    Tasting note
Overripe and alcoholic leaving the impression of soy sauce in the making. Unpleasant palate with green, coarse tannin and a vinegar-like taste. Beyond the peak at the verge of imploding was my take. Others in the group were less strict arguing that this is just the oxidative style of Troplong Mondot. But I have my doubts. Neither the 2005, 2009, 2010, 2016 or 2017 were in the least oxidative (all tasted over the last 2 years). Either this was a bad bottle or just an unlucky vintage for the estate.

(Troplong-Mondot) This had a beautiful nose of cocoa powder, mineral, dripping cassis, tar, touch of herbs and dark blueberry. Structured like a Medoc on the palate with oodles of just this short of sweet concentrated fruit. Beautiful detail and precision along with a long finish. Needed 45 mins to really strut it's stuff but a great example of this "left-bank, right-bank" St. Emilion.
