December 17, 2021 - late-night shenanigans (portland, OR): Nose: This has been opened for several hours before I got to it and it certainly helped. There is a darker edge to the tones of dark red cherries, tobacco leaf, black raspberries, licorice, black currants, cedar notes, and some spice box. While there is a richness to the fruit, it is all in balance right now.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity and resolving, medium+ tannins. The structure feels like it’s fully in the mature stage as the tannins are still there, but they aren’t the main event. There is a density and richness to the feel with dark red cherries, black raspberries, black currants, tobacco leaf, cedar notes, and some spice box.

Overall: This is mature and ready to go. The darker edge of the vintage certainly shows up, but it isn’t overdone and more adds a degree of mystery. This is in no danger of falling off any time soon, so one can hold or drink to their pleasure.

August 28, 2021 - Schokolade, Beerenfrucht, Trockenobst, erdigen uns mineralische Anklänge, etwas Menthol; am Gaumen mittlerer Körper, leicht zehrende fein- bis mittelkörnige Tannine, komplexer, langer Abgang; gut zu trinken. Nicht mehr zu lange lagern.

July 12, 2021 - A private dinner (Restaurant d'Oude Schuur, Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium): Wonderfully expressive and warm nose, hint of chocolate, firm but slightly drying tannins, rather pinched finish. Drink soon.
