April 24, 2019 - Spent an hour in a decanter, the nose and palate ended up matching my expectations, a well made cab that is not extracted or over oaked in any way. Age has treated this well, integrating tannins into a very fine grained drinking experience with a lush but not over the top mouthfeel with blackerry and chocolate notes standing out.

March 22, 2019 - Pnp. Elegant nose with eucalyptos, grilled paprika, green pepper, rum raisins and dried cherries.

Heavy, slightly soft with a powerful and dark heart. Lacking fruit and feels a bit dry. Some bacon fat and fine integrated minerals. Unfortunately not convinced on this price range. Two bottles left.

October 5, 2018 - This delicate yet plummy Cabernet tastes a few years past its peak, but it's still an enjoyable, if straightforward, wine. Brick red in color, medium in body, nose of prunes, herbs, and wet asphalt. Tastes of plum, cedar, and cranberry, with a woodsy and lifted finish. Blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Cab Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. 14.5% alcohol.

My favorite part of this wine was the finish, which seemed downright elegant for a wine of this size. That said, the aromas and flavors of the wine show that whatever intensity and tension this wine had, have since left the building. My sense is that more recent vintages of La Jota will last longer than this bottle, but this is a cautionary tale about waiting too long. Drink now.

(La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain) Very dark purple red violet color; sugar topped berries, ripe blackberry, mulberry, berry syrup nose; rich, concentrated, ripe berry, blackberry, berry syrup palate with very sweet tannins; showing well now but could use 2 years; medium-plus finish (81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot) 92+ points
