Community Tasting Notes 10

January 12, 2019 - Bright, pale yellow. Petrol, lime, lime blossom, and crushed stone. Balanced residual sugar and acidity, round texture, a tad thin on the midpalate before finishing big and rich with mouth-coating lime and spice. Very good.

January 1, 2017 - Rich nose of peaches and citrus. Also some earthy nuances and stones. Palate is sweet and rich with moderate minerality and a long sweet finish.

September 15, 2015 - Light, bright yellow. Nose of petrol, pear, and lime. Pear and peach in the mouth. The residual sugar is balanced by grippy acid. Fresh, light, and crisp, yet boasting wonderfully intense aromatics. Great Spätlese.

August 8, 2015 - This is in a better place than the last bottle - a bit of the baby fat sweetness has burned off and thus the edge has sharpened a touch. The nose is just wonderful and lively, showing lime, minerals, honey, powdered stone, herbs-mint, white grapes. It's got significant sweetness, but it is so fresh and acidic. Enters with lime and honey, and the acid and minerality build in the middle. There is a wave of sweetness - honey and grapes at the beginning of the finish, but that's just the eye of the hurricane, as the burning lime slowly builds again with serious power as the finish continues. This is serious stuff, and now a worthy sibling of the excellent 12 Kabinett. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5-5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16.5-17.5/20.

December 21, 2014 - This is delicious and clearly best with a serious chill on it. The nose here is very crunchy with a zing - lime, green apple, cumin, nutmeg, crushed stones, flint, sugar snap peas, white grapes, honey. This is lively and racy like other 12 Lauers, but also has a honeyed sweetness to it. The nose is really green and brown spicy (Sponti?). The palate is quite interesting - both racy and sweet/deep. It's a triad of honeyed fruits, spicy greenness, and citric acidity. The finish really shows the lime, cumin, minerality and chalk - with a deeper baroque wave before the lime acid hits a long searing note. It's more powerful than the Kabinett, but the balance isn't as great and it is racy, but not as electric. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16-17/20.
