    November 10, 2019 - Decanted, medium to light garnet. Initially a lot of dark cherry, classic leather, herb, and anise. As it sat in the decanter, it lost a lot of the leather and more herb with a saline note. Still young of course, but paired nicely with the lasagna we had for the *SOUNDERS WIN the MLS CUP* party.

    October 6, 2019 - The 2010 Valdicava has a deep crimson colour with lovely clarity. There is a zesty nose of fresh dark cherries, redcurrants, balsamic vinegar, thyme and touches of clove and liquorice with a lovely palate of dark fruits, autumn spice, liquorice and a firm mineral / tannic spine and a fine savoury finish that lingers nicely. A delicious mid-weight Brunello with plenty of character.

    October 6, 2019 - Chocolate laced with anise. Structure so enjoyable now. Paired excellently with grilled ribeye.

    Med+ aromas intensity of dry ripe red cherries, red sour plums, red cranberries, raspberries, oak vanilla, leather, earth;
    Developing;
    Dry, high acidity, med- tannins, med abv, med- body, med+ flavors intensity consistent with the nose, complexed, long finish; outstanding!
    Can drink now - suitable for further aging.

    July 26, 2019 - I had a taste of this during the Wine Spectator Experience in DC last year and I remember coming away underwhelming, thinking that the wine came off as more thin and less integrated than I would like. Last night, I had the restaurant open it up and decant it for a little while, anticipating a bit of baby fat on this, and I was right. The nose was earthy and lovely, and the palate opened with a relatively austere offering of red fruit, creme de cassis, and some baking spices. After an hour or so it really started to strut its stuff, finding more depth of dark and red fruit, minerality, and overall balance. I would buy this again if I could find it for under $100/bottle, but would wait until 2022 to pop another cork.
