July 21, 2021 - My sole bottle. Superb cork, no ullage. Burgundy glass. Intriguing nose of sandalwood, raspberry, cranberry, orange zest. Smooth, medium bodied. Wonderfully drying Italian tannins that coat/dry and pucker the buccal mucosa, that's the standout feature of this wine. Long perfumed finish. 15% alcohol is not evident. Made for osso bucco or bistecca. This will age well and soften and maintain it's structure due to those tannins, good acid level and that fruit strength.

January 1, 2021 - 1.5h decanted, but would profit from more.
Incredible complex bouquet, light notes of menthol, eukalyptus, herbacious and spice, the fruit aromas are not dominant, but there are some red fruits and hints of berries. the nose is complemented by soft vanilla and sweet woody notes.
palate: typical rustical barolo notes. same aromas as in the nose. wood, red fruits. the bouquet was more pleasant than the palate.
adstringent and very present tannins, but still ripe.
some weeks ago we tasted the 2010 cicala, which had much more fruit and was more structured.
got better after time, but would suggest waiting another 5-10y or decant more.

    December 24, 2020 - - 1.5h decanted
    - Nose: Medium (+) intense nose with an herbaceous, stony aroma imprint. In addition, nicely but gently coated with dark fresh berries (blackberries, currants) but also red-fruited (red plums, raspberries). Very complex nose that is also tremendously structured. Wow, you don't want to stop smelling. More and more vanilla and wood arrive.
    - Mouth: dry, medium alcohol, still quite present tannins (slightly unripe - medium), the fruit body is not quite as powerfull as in the 2010. The taste picture is more on the red-fruity side in the mouth. The length is good but the tannins get in the way a bit.
    - Conclusion: Top in the nose, ok in the mouth. Can last another 10 years. 93 points.

May 21, 2020 - High toned, aromatic wine. The usual cranberry tart Cicala aroma, high to medium acid, long and balanced, with some residual tannins. Evolving quickly, a hall mark of the hot '09 vintage. At the cusp where the fruit has begun showing some balsamic qualities and the tannins have receded enough for one to enjoy the wine. Would want to drink this while the fruit is still fleshy and primary.

    June 5, 2019 - WIML93

    Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of anise, black pepper and black berries. Flavors of berries and cherries. Bright acidity, drying tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.

February 2, 2018 - Very Pretty high toned nose of flowers and spice. Much more ripe on the tongue with dark berry, prune and even raisin. Interesting in that there is a good amount of perfume and complexity upfront, but it is overpowered ultimately by a borderline overripe palate.

October 28, 2017 - Vin I Nord Fine Wine Fall BYO; 10/28/2017-10/29/2017 (Tord Marius): Dark red with a blue hue. Nose with spices, spelled and hung meat. The palate has cherries and hints of liquorice before violent tannins enters the oral cavity and dries it up completely. Packs a lot of heat and alcohol. Not being a big fan of violent tannins this ruins the impression of the wine. Lay down for several years.

August 9, 2016 - Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Great nose, sweet, bright. Some color change. Tastes so bright, but youthful. Power and tannin, has to be Barolo. Sexy, cedar, sandy, I guessed this was Sandrone. Had this a couple of months ago (see Rezy13's note) and it took some time to open up. This one had good decant time and was really starting to sing. I think the '09s will be that way - drink early and enjoy.

June 25, 2016 - Probably a reflection of the vintage, but this was pretty forward and what I would consider "big" as far as profile goes. Lots of red current fruit, which I find in more of the modern Baroli out there. Still tons of tannin and it has some fat to it; slightly clumsy with the weight, alcohol and not terribly elegant, which is how I always characterize the Cicala cru. Again, probably vintage...

June 21, 2016 - 92+; at an in-between phase of sweet congested red fruit along with leather, licorice, roses, deep and complex just still developing; good balance to age in the mid term.
