July 14, 2015 - as much a QPR from France as there ever was. When you buy a sub-$15USbote if off-dry Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, you hope for, but don't expect they quality that you see from Domaine Huet or Boumard. However it's quite surprising how many wines from this area as well as the bulk of Blanc wines from the LoireValkey both Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, that put quality wine into off-dry Blanc wines that can compete with anybody globally. Fresh fruits, minerals and acidity that do well laid down in q cellar for a couple of years and no deterioration and actually some fruit/acid/mineral integration happens. Really such a crowd pleading wine on Bastille day. Orchard fruits both Apple and pear with a touch of green melon with rind. A treat under $20US.
April 6, 2015 - acids coming out a bit more sour while the nice Chenin fruit may be starting to fade.
March 20, 2015 - sugars are blending well into acidic/mineral base. Great qpr with classic Chenin/Vouvray fruit and structure.
July 19, 2014 - another great Vouvray. Love the fruit in these.
June 15, 2014 - Great qpr Vouvray. Off dry with full fruit and nice mineral and acid to hold it up, with brats and kraut. A strange pairing, but it worked well. No beer was on hand, so this fit in a strange gap.
May 19, 2014 - I need to buy another case of this. so good for $11. Love straight imports at century and Whitehouse. Virginia's Old Country vintner. Think Huet and other good off-dry Chenin Blanc. Watching Scent of a Woman, does it get any better than this?
May 5, 2014 - Again a solid off-dry Chenin Blanc with typical Chenin fruit, and a nice acidic bite. Such a great value.
April 12, 2014 - Wow, what a great qpr, considering the hail that hit Vouvray during this vintage.
Pale Yellow in color, just a bit darker than straw, makes this wonderful young wine terrific as a go to for summer. Bright acidity and mineral backbone balances this off-dry white wine perfectly. The residual sugar makes this a little less sweet than a sec wine, but the acidity keeps the mouth watering. Juicy quince, green pear and a hint of just under-ripe honeydew or cassava melon. Really enjoyable with cajun spiced chicken breasts served with cous-cous with pine nuts and olive oil. Broccoli medley on the side. I am going to go back and try to get the rest of this as this is for drinking young as its in clear bottles with faux cork, but one of the better looking faux corks. I had to check it up close.
