July 5, 2023 - Hazelnuts and baked apple and honey. Broad in the mouth now. Adequate acid. Holding up well - but to be drunk fairly soon. Hard to assess. On the one hand it is amazing that Chardonnay grapes can become so wonderful a thing such as this. On the other, is it really so enjoyable ? But no denying the privilege of drinking a well stored fine Leflaive at 20 years. With grilled salmon - perhaps the wine needs something more expansive and creamy. Bought on release.

May 8, 2021 - Still a delicious and enjoyable wine although it peaked 5-10 years ago.
Keep 93 rating from a historical perspective and note to self about drinking remaining bottle during this summer.
Quite happy about its drinkability in 2021

May 13, 2018 - Just a quick note, but since it's worth noting - this was an outstanding bottle. Mature, but no signs of premox. Rich and round and ripe, but with plenty of acid and minerals. An altogether correct example, and tinged with sadness because good examples are fading from my memory.

December 15, 2017 - Annual Christmas Dinner at La Folie (La Folie San Francisco): Christmas Dinner at La Folie. What a stunning wine!! This has been tempting me for a long time. No Premox and just entering it's prime. It was opened for 30 minutes but not decanted. Light golden translucence. Brilliant nose with no evidence of hazelnut but full of lemon zest and white fruit. Long finish with lots of glycerin. Loved it. 1 left and I hope it is as good, these 2002 have been a little variable but when good -they are great. Perfect foil for Rollands Poached Lobster and Butternut bisque.

November 17, 2014 - A bit greasy and sweetness aroma. The smell reminds me of something seafood in the summer that is difficult to put exact words on. Some good ripe apples, almost a little "fallen-down" apples, without any clear signs of ox, only mature.

The flavor also has some of this little fat, buttery. But experienced nevertheless fresh. Very nice fullness and taste. Long. Very good and wonderful mouthfeel.

    50 + 5 + 13.5 + 17 + 9 = 94,5p.

Other wines in this flight, all tasted blind:
    Louis Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 02 (87p)
Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc 02 (90p)
    Fontaine-Gagnard Batard-Montrachet 02 (89-90p)
