July 3, 2019 - the color does not show its age at all. Minimal bricking at the edge. Started out very tight and acidic. It needed the 2 hour decant and then it came alive. Aromas of plum, currant, olive, cedar, tea, cherry, earth and leather. Really showing tertiary character. Still has plum, cherry, earth, leather, tea. Very smooth. Silky finish. Beautifully balanced. Just a wonderful old school Napa Cabernet. Not showing its age now and should easily hit 50 years.

April 26, 2019 - Friday Tasting Group: Farewell to One of the Group's Stalwarts (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Smoke, berries, poss Rutherford dust? Intensity lurking

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by a bit of astringent pucker which, slowly, SEAMLESSLY transitions into the very LONG, BALANCED finish with an ELEGANT tangy/swtness to the few, very, VERY fine tannins. An *awesome* wine that, in addition to being the consensus fav of the tasting, NO one pegged for being as old as it is! [Personally I can see it making its 50th, still having the wherewithal to accompany food for most or all of that!] 13.5% ABV; My Exceptional-/Exceptional. 90 & 92 pts RJonWine, 90 WA, 86 John Gilman, 84 WS, 80 Jeff Leve (10/29/11), but 18/20 Jancis Robinson (9/27/17).

Note: From what I've been able to gather, older BV PRs are often inconsistent, the speculation being issues with their corks.

November 15, 2018 - A 40-Year Retrospective on 1978's (Los Olivos, CA): Patience and air really benefited this wine, as it evolved beautifully throughout the evening. Complex, elusive aromatics that teased but never lingered. Very much alive in the mouth, especially as the night evolved. Gentle red currant notes and forest floor, sort of a pine thing I think.

July 11, 2018 - Better than last bottle. Clearly on the downside though was a crowd pleaser vs other comparable but more recent Cali cabs

May 5, 2018 - What a surprise as I have had inconsistent BV older wines, which I suppose is related to the cork. I open 4 hours ago. The first 30 minutes thought was disjointed and over the hill. 2 hours in this wine takes on a new taste profile. Flavors are more to tea flavors than fruit but silky and enough tannins to be perfect with a steak. I was tied up at one hour stand point.
    At 4 hours still enjoying.
