October 26, 2020 - Big bright blackberry fruit, cocoa and cassis. Tannins have faded, but plenty of acid lingering. It's a good weekday wine... Got a great deal on it, otherwise I would've never considered buying this at $100+.

April 17, 2015 - Popped poured and drank. What an experience! Fruit, chocolate, almonds, unbelievable palate pleasure. Not a lot of bricking for its age, but big and chewy. Definitely at its prime, wish I had more!

March 29, 2015 - Purple color with some brown at the rim. Very muted grapey bouquet and flavor that is not able to mask the alcohol, which showed up in the finish. Wine clearly over the hill, and my fault for not drinking it earlier.

May 16, 2012 - Still very intense on the nose with black currants, blackberries. On the palate a bit out of balance now. Flavors of licorice, graphite, and coffee are there but fading and an element of excessive acid and stewed fruit. The bottle was slow ox'd for 3-4 hours and followed over the next 24 hours. More time didn't help it very much. Some figs and raisins emerged over time and some hints of oak and a creaminess that reminded me of a watered down milkshake. Based on other vintages I'd say I'm at least a couple of years late to the party on this one. Not scored.

April 28, 2012 - I opened the Merus 2000 with great anticipation because of its limited production. I must say, tasting the Merus 2000 vintage was an uneventful experience. Its not a bad wine, but one that could be described as an average cab. A solid wine which I would score 89-90 points. The wine should be decanted for at least 1 hour. The initial nose offered up cherry, wet stone, chocolate, and a hint of espresso. The Merus 2000 had a beautiful color which could be described as dark cherry. The feel in the mouth was typical of a cab with a medium to heavy feel on the palate. The tannin's were essentially light,.. so very approachable. The taste offered up cherry, chocolate, espresso, and medicinal notes lingered at the finish. Overall, a solid wine that was not overly impressive. I would suspect this wine is at peak with 1-2 years available for drinking. Not a good QPR. Score 89
