June 23, 2015 - An outstanding Syrah. Forward but with ample complexity. An appealing nose. Just a well made wine that continues to age well.

July 11, 2014 - I'm continuing my virtual tour of some Washington vineyards. Washington State, that is. I live in Washington, DC. There are plenty of w(h)ines made around here, but nothing to drink or brag about.
My first impression was that this had more pepper than the syrahs I'm accustomed to. Not that it's inferior; just different. Checking the back of the bottle I read that 21% is made from Counoise, a varietal, I learned, often added to Rhone blends.....albeit usually below 10% of the mix. Furthermore I see this wine is 14.9% alcohol, which is pushing my upper range.
Bottom line: an enjoyable wine, but at the moment I prefer the Tapteil. -

July 1, 2014 - More fruit forward than other Robert Ramsay Syrahs but still has the mineral laced brine that gives a nice umami profile.

June 7, 2014 - Dark, savory nose; violets and earthy spice. Lots of red and blue fruit, but nicely restrained, balanced with savory and spicy notes. Texturally soft and elegant, leading into a long finish with balanced acidity.

March 16, 2014 - Bob Harris took the fruit nature provided in this difficult vintage and crafted a spectacular wine from it. The perfumed, charming, and layered bouquet screams Red Mountain. The palate features exceptional texture and balance. Complexity is the hallmark of this Syrah, refined, seductive, and stylish. One of the most appealing Washington Syrah bottlings I have ever tasted, and of the 2011 vintage, only Owen Roe's Ex Umbris is of comparable quality, but that wine is made in a different style.
