Community Tasting Notes 10

October 9, 2019 - Also tasted at winery (Silvia was great) and it was so good, I bought a couple more. '98 generally turning out to be better than originally thought from a lot of long lived wines. Quite bordeaux like in many ways with some nice aged flavors and well integrated tannins. I'd say it will have another year or two but now more.

May 11, 2019 - Purchased after a visit to winery for vertical tastings. This was really interesting and good. The age added a lot for us. Medium garnet with a brownish hue. Unique floral aromas, with a hint of earthy herbal tones - the most distinctive feature of this wine. Dark berry flavors with little to no tannins. Smooth and nice. This was fun to taste, but likely has faded from its peak. Probably smart to drink now.

May 7, 2016 - Was excited to try this, but alas, it was waning. Too bad. I love Altamura and Frank's wine are usually spectacular, but at 18 years this one was a disappointment. Upon opening the nose was off, not vinegar, but more vegetal. We decanted, waited an hour, it improved but it was just drinkable at best. I am not sure what Wooden Valley looks like in terms of aging, but this wine was on its way out. i have some other old Altamura so i will be trying them soon.

February 19, 2012 - Ruby red in color with a mouth watering nose. Smooth long finish, a hint of chocolate, subtle fruit. I'm just sorry this was my last one!
