Community Tasting Notes 4

March 17, 2017 - Opened at a party tonite. Quite good, notes of soil and tobacco, black cherry fruit. Med length finish. Drink up.
Nothing made in Ohio can compare to these Kinkead Ridge wines. I am not sure what they do, but I'm pretty sure there is some black magic involved.

March 6, 2016 - Opened 2 days ago, consumed half the bottle, and stored until the TN today.
Nose has upfront barnyard funk, with black cherry and plum fruit notes, hot road tar, and wet earth.
On the palate, the funk carries through (which I don't love), and the black fruit profile takes precedence over the soil and tar flavors. The wine is soft and supple, wide open and ready to be drunk now, through 2018 or so...wouldn't wait too much longer. The acidity and structure of this wine, coupled with the med length finish (just a tad hot), would almost certainly never be guessed as an Ohio wine. Kudos to the original Kinkead Ridge old school winemaker. The winery has recently been sold, so let's see if the new guard can keep this up.

March 22, 2014 - Blind tasting at Rob & Bev's; 3/22/2014-3/23/2014: Tasted blind, this wine really baffled the group. Obviously a high quality wine, terroir-first with aromas of moist earth, leather and barnyard funk, followed by some dark plum aromas. Flavors of bright red fruits and deep black fruits, with soil and mineral tones adding complexity and interest. Well balanced, potentially old-world wine, maybe a fine Cotes du Rhone? Alas, an Ohio Syrah. Really mind-blowing stuff out of this small shack on an Ohio River hillside. Will drink well through 2018.

November 24, 2013 - Tasted blind, thought it was a Cotes du Rhone. Had some soil and leather aromas, in addition to black-fruited Syrah notes. Repeated on the palate, a bit of nice spiciness, good complexity, a bit tense with the med level tannins, but this is a young wine that will likely improve for 2 yrs in bottle and drink well through 2019 or so. Really, really good for Ohio juice!
