September 18, 2020 - Decent for the price, a bit oaky + high acidity, mellowed out somewhat on day 2

July 3, 2020 - Excellent nose of leather, peanuts, and cherries. Soft and light weight. Developed with mid complexity. Piercing minerality contextualizes it and wraps the tannins and acidity like a blanket. This is ready to drink now, and it's a really good time to enjoy Rioja.

June 25, 2020 - My favourite old tradition Rioja winery. Great performance. Licouris, great dried fruit. Great acidity backbone. My last 2005. Luckely a have the 2007, 2009 and 2010 left.

June 18, 2020 - Surprised at how much fruit this still has; definitely old-world on the nose which does persist, a bit of funk and barnyard, but there are notes of leather, tart cherry, and if you really work at it, touches of star anise. It's been awhile since I opened one of these and although it's showing its age with secondary characteristics, the fruit is still there. Maybe a few more years left in it. Great QPR.

May 25, 2020 - 93+ Cherries and strawberry, cola, with some sous bois and leather. Beautiful acidity and freshness, tannins are fully integrated and soft but still present enough to provide some degree of structure. Great wine. Clearly in its drinking period but no rush. This wine can easily go another 3-5 years, perhaps much more. I opened with my Durand based on others' comments and the cork easily came out in one piece.

May 17, 2020 - Good but the 2007 is more refined. The tannins on this vintage are more pronounced and less integrated with the red fruits.

April 24, 2020 - Bought an OC of 12x75cl bottles: 9 bottles had the cork totally disintegrate when trying to open them. Managed to enjoy 3 bottles at most from the case. Tonight, two bottles were tipped down the drain like happened on 26 Dec 2018. Must have been a really bad batch of corks in 2005. Many others commented on this problem. Surprising for La Rioja Alta: shame on them. In contrast, a case of the 2007 of the same wine has been totally trouble free.

PS: I opened a bottle of the 2007 last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd give the 2007 a 92.

March 25, 2020 - PnP, ran through a vinturi, very forward with oak notes and vanilla on the nose. The palate is very smooth and loaded with velvety tannins along with a lot of on the border portlike expressions of fruit. A bigger mouthfeel and a longer finish round this bottle out.
