    April 24, 2023 - Popped and poured
Dark fruit (black cherry, slight blueberry), spice, earth, slight lavender, slight garrigue, good acidity. Some tannins. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable.

January 11, 2021 - Opened about 30 minutes before drinking. Olive on nose. Paired well with arrabbiata pasta dish. Faded after a couple of hours. Pleased with how it aged overall however.

May 2, 2016 - Has aged well and is quite mature. Dried fruit with an abundance of softened tannins left. Subtle olive as well. Paired with meaty lasagna for dinner but would also go really well with a nice grilled steak. Opened about 15 minutes and the fruit started fading after about an 1 hour which was perfect as the bottle went fast!

April 5, 2013 - Beautifully aged Montefalco wine with a great personality. Composition:100 percent Sagrantino, the indigenous grape variety grown only in the Montefalco area. Maturation: 15 months in small French oak barrels, then 6 months in stainless steel tanks, followed by a further 6 month's refinement in the bottle prior to release. Concentrated dark red in color without the slightest hint of evolution and a complex nose crammed with ripe plum fruit, dark chocolate, leather and a touch of tar. The powerful but elegantly balanced palate offers abundant ripe red berry fruit, a compact structure and massive but velvety tannins. Long and delicious finish. This wine is superbly drinking now, but can certainly be enjoyed until 2017.

December 23, 2012 - Decanted 2 hrs. Still youthful, quite tannic/massive in profile. Vibrant ruby in color. Dark fruits on the nose. Medium-to-long finish. Still has a long life ahead.

    December 31, 2011 - Dear Friends,

Exceptional! Just as good as the bottle (a 1999 vintage) that we shared the night we got engaged in Silvignano, Umbria, Italy. We enjoyed the 2001 with italian food at Serafina's. A totally underappreciated varietal, in my opinion. Loved it! Solomon sold us a 2004 from the Serafina cellar to replace this one.

September 30, 2010 - Outstanding showing for this wine. This exceeded expectations. Decanted and poured, the aromatics begin reserved. Airing brings tar, fresh asphalt, dried herbs, black fruits and Christmas spice notes to the bouquet the are expressive and detailed. The color is a dark ruby to black that remains youthful. The medium/full bodied palate shows firm dense fruit that shows focus and detail. The finish shows proportioned and balanced tannins and acidity. On release this wine showed similar traits. A bottle tasted two years ago did not show that same detail as this bottle. This is aging well.

June 6, 2010 - Vini Rossi-L'Ultimo Piano (Asti Trattoria): A disappointment, for this was to be our fifth bottle in a flight of sagrantino with some age. Universally declared a corked bottle.

April 21, 2010 - Dark color, nicely aromatic. Flavors of dark fruits finishing with some vanilla and oak. Gripping tannins that quickly dissipate. Paired very well with red sauce. At this point, let it breath an for an hour before consuming. Day 2- should have finished on day 1.
