May 8, 2018 - This seems to have improved from my last bottle in November which was disappointing. Wide bottom decant for an hour then rebottled. Expressive nose with a hint of smoke, violets, sweet spices, red and blue berries. Palate doesn’t quite live up to the nose. Juicy dark red fruit out front with a medium body. Finishes with tart cherry and still quite gripping tannins. This was better with grilled steaks than on its own. This was a nice surprise based on my previous bottle and recent reviews. Questioning wether a cool year like 2011 still at 14.7% is truly representative of this label’s style.
Day 3. Improved some. Tannins softened, picked up some weight, added a fig note, the nose wasn’t quite as expressive and more focused on red fruit and spice. Much more in balance.
December 30, 2017 - Same as last notes. Light body, minimal extraction & short finish. Balance was fine but for the price I'm looking for much more out of a Syrah
November 26, 2017 - Oh dear. I bought 3 bottles of this in auction. Big disappointment. I've been drinking all sorts of the Washington wines and they are (typically) greeeeat. I'm focusing on the Syrahs. This however was a pedestrian if well-made wine.
November 11, 2017 - Nose is blackberry tar lavender, palate is medium to lightweight blackberry, short finish, drying tannins. Pretty direct varietal correct $20 Syrah. Unfortunately it cost almost 3 x that much.
November 9, 2017 - Compared to a California Syrah this tastes tart, thin, light mouthfeel and not extracted. 14.7% alcohol but tastes far less and more cool climate. No WoW factor for me but maybe my palate doesn't appreciate this style of Syrah.
October 11, 2017 - Mighty good! Sweet berry nose, great balance & concentration, long finish. Not as distinctive or flamboyant as some, but very well made.
April 16, 2017 - Wow, gave this a one hour decant at a restaurant. Big and complex. Loved the nose which was very dark, deep and full of tobacco, spice and black and blue fruit. The palate was super concentrated, mouth coating and full of dark brooding fruit, spice and what I thought was a very distinct toasted carmel note that I liked. Tannins are smoothing out nicely but still present. This wine has room to go but was excellent.
April 3, 2017 - Had alongside Tenet Pundit Syrah ($25 retail comparison) this was noticeable better after an hour or two
November 5, 2016 - Needs more time. Black and blue fruit with big fruity tannins and a long finish.
September 27, 2016 - Quite a good wine. Dark and dense. Rich, dark fruits, cassis, spice and still a fair amount of almost sweet tannin. Could use toning down a bit but no denying underlying quality and tastiness. My best is there is possible significant improvement over the next 4-8 years.
