January 17, 2021 - Premox or bad conservation.
December 5, 2020 - Busted wine.....past prime by a lot...brown and stewed prunes.."
Won’t denigrate the producer or bottle as it may have been my poor
basement storage conditions of fluctuating temps...
I have 350 bottles in eurocave and 350 in basement temps.....this was in basement temp...
August 12, 2019 - It’s getting better. I was probably over-generous with the previous 94 rating in 2016. But this has years left and after several hours blossomed into a fantastic wine.
August 1, 2019 - Still very young.
December 2, 2018 - Some Sunday wines (Chicago, IL): The nose on this was fairly expressive when it was popped, but seemed to dumb down quite quickly. Tons of tannin on the palate, which is really the most prominent thing right now, but the red fruit is sweet and pretty, and there are wisps of the perfume that are quite alluring too. Perhaps a hint of spice on the back end?
November 5, 2018 - in a great place now. sweet fruit, tar, roses, and herbs on the nose. something very fresh not quite pine, mint, fennel, or sage, but best of all worlds. body is light to medium with well balanced acidity. concentrated, precise flavor of sweet cherry syrup. warm, drying tannin on the back leading into a medium to long finish. elegant and demonstrating great typicality. drink now or hold up to 10.
October 18, 2018 - Very nice altho without a lot going on. Super-well balanced, with slight nose and taste on the vback palate of citrus, cherry or licorice. It’s a bit tight still in 2018, but not overly so, there is little upside to holding this wine I think.
April 5, 2018 - Color is a tinge darker than other barbaresco’s I have had...
Nose is interesting, I got some raw meat, leather, licorice, some floral fruit I can’t describe, touch green pepper, black pepper...
Flavor is tannic, tart cherry, acidic, bit lean and austere finish with sour cherry and drying tannins.... this wine really doesn’t do it for me at least tonight...would say it needs more bottle time
January 27, 2018 - Yumma
July 21, 2017 - Not as opulent nor open as the 2009 at present. More structured, with very present tannin and acidity. Tight now, but still quite drinkable, if this opens and fleshes out over the next 2-3 years, it will merit a higher score. Classic nose and palate of rose water, spice, spruce needles and black cherries. Drink 2018-2024 91
