January 22, 2017 - PnP. Pretty if powerful. Will likely continue to improve. 14.5%

October 21, 2016 - Cherry, red fruit, and leather notes on the nose. Good acidity with more red fruit and medium-high tannins on the palate. Great finish.

September 10, 2016 - Rich and ripe on the palate with mixed berries, excellent structure but still quite soft and velvety; rich extracted feel on the palate, a bit warm, cooked fruits and a black volcanic ashy impression in the finish. Really nice, maybe 91-92.

July 9, 2016 - Tremendous. Poured immediately. Very food friendly and Pinot like. You can definitely detect the volcanic influenced terroir here, but ample fruit to balance. Smooth and delightful finish. If this wine is indicative of the region, hugely underrated.

April 27, 2016 - I really like this wine, which improved with air. Initially a raspberry jam nose - by far the biggest nose of all the Etna wines - this is also much darker, and with much more ripeness. It's also very structured with tanins, acid and minerality. With air there were signs of complex minerals, mocha and chocolate. Super decadent. More like a top Amarone than modern Barolo, but much more sweetness and here the alcohol is less prominent. I loved it - and snapped up a case immediately. Will be great with heavy game dishes. I think this will improve significantly, and will drink mine 2020-2030. 94+pts.

Note: the silica soil here prevented phylloxera from reaching these Etna vines. Due to the nature vigour, the use of low yielding vines (120yrs old) is crucial. This site has more lava fields and minerality - perhaps maximising the ripeness
