July 9, 2017 - In the pantheon of Barolo's, I think this producer is slightly underrated. This wine is a bit more complex that some of the other reviews suggest, striking an interesting balance between traditional and modern. The nose is much more "old world" with earthy characteristics of sandalwood, pine needles and tar, while the taste is much more cherry, strawberry but with some very present tannins that really make for an extended finish. Drunk over two days, was actually slightly better on the second, suggesting a long(er) life ahead of it. For the money, certainly a winner.

October 15, 2016 - (elaine@scarpetta) Rich earthy woodland funk, tapenade and black olives. Hints exotic spice, soft leather, umami. Palate is brisk, port, apple-skin tannins and tall acid. More leather and late berries, juicy and leafy. Grippy finish, edging on kirschwasser. Worked well with duck ravioli with foie gras, and white truffle shavings!

July 29, 2016 - Fun to try, but 5 years too early. Crazy tight tannins the first night. Better second. Hold

August 1, 2015 - Really tight on first opening. Over two hours became more aromatic tannins seemed to soften and beautiful fruit with secondary flavors of tar and dried flowers emerged. Medium to long finish. Hold or decant. Really nice.

April 8, 2015 - Consumed over the course of two days. Beautiful floral bouquet of violets and roses. Elegant tannins that seem to be softened already. This wine is drinking very well now, but it is still a baby. Drink 2018-2025.

This wine was a great introduction to Marziano Abbona's Barolo's.

May 5, 2014 - Wildman Il Giro Italian 2014 Tour (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Starts with forward red berry and cherry aromas with floral, spice hints. Less forward on palate, quite firm. Spice start-to-finish. Classic styling. Good.
