Community Tasting Notes 17

  • Eudemis Likes this wine:

January 28, 2021 - 13.5% alcohol. Diam5 closure, short but extremely compact. Opened the bottle 45 mn ahead and poured a glass 30 mn later. The colour is disconcertingly (but reassuringly) light, even showing a remnant of a green tinge.
The nose is not imposing but it is very refined with white flowers and even a suggestion of white peach. The mouth is similar in style with fine acidity and a long satisfying finish. Long rather than broad.
No buttery notes at any stage and no perception of oak.
This is probably not what most people (including myself) expect from a Meursault, but it is a very elegant white Côte de Beaune nevertheless. Undoubtedly very well made and a repeat purchase at the right price.
Did justice to our live prawns (as expected) and even to velvet crab.

    Pale straw yellow.
Decent enough, light elegant easy sort of Chardonnay, but really seeming lacking in charm.
None of the richness expected. This was a recent purchase, so hopefully better cellared examples may have more life.

November 22, 2019 - 13.5% alcohol. Diam5 closure. Pale colour with a crystalline purity to it. The nose is discreet but classy, with no buttery notes and no oak; yellow flowers and a suggestion of pineapple. The mouth is in the same vein, with good zip and excellent balance. No opulence here (and I see how this might disappoint some people), but plenty to enjoy; fine length too. Not your stereotypical Meursault, but a succulent wine nevertheless. Went well with prawns and red mullet.
A repeat purchase in principle, but I must admit to having benefitted from special purchasing conditions which are unlikely to present themselves again.

February 8, 2019 - 13.5% alcohol. Diam 5 cork. Carafed 30 mn ahead. Very pale colour, with a crystalline quality to it.
The nose has good intensity, with yellow flowers in evidence. The mouth is short on opulence but long on elegant floral and mineral flavours. A fine companion to our pan fried brill. Probably not a typical Meursault, but a fine Côte de Beaune white nevertheless. In perfect condition too; indeed has room left for improvement. A repeat purchase if I can get a similar deal again.

September 8, 2017 - Aromas of stone, apple and lemon curd. Apple, citrus and mineral on the palate with balanced acidity. Lengthy finish. A great showing from this bottle. 93 for me, 92+ for Domino.
