October 15, 2019 - Lots of florals on the nose and palate - almost candied flowers in taste - along with strawberries, raspberries and red cherries. Hints of herbs, spice and stones. Nice and balanced - whilst being a big wine, there was not perception of alcohol heat. Good length and pretty silky tannins at this stage of its life. Really enjoyable. Not sure how much it will improve with age given its approachability.

October 12, 2019 - My tasting curiosity is my own nemesis at times. This needs more cellaring, similar to many past vintages of Beaucastel. Upon opening, lots of fresh strawberry notes that I typically associate with grenache, plus pronounced grainy tannic notes. With a few hours of decanting, it became more mellow but also more muted and unfocused. It tasted too raw and not in a great place, overall. Hold. 91-94pts (with more time).

October 10, 2019 - From a coravin sample. Nice ruby red with slight fire-red reflections. On the nose, aromas of liquorice, plums, blackberries, garrigue aromas, maraschino cherry and balsam. On the palate, the attack is frank with at first the fruit found on the nose, but then a very high level of tannin appears and dominates the good length. Admittedly, I may have knocked the tannin deposit which is why after a clear pour, it became slightly cloudy which would explain the tannic bitterness. Will try again tomorrow by opening the bottle to see if the tannin will recede somewhat. Very nice nose, but not currently particularly pleasant on the palate due to overbearing tannin.

The next day - sure enough, the problem was with fine precipitated tannin that made it into the Coravin sample. Once decanted, the wine lost its intense bitterness and reached a nice balance. For me this is still 3-4 years too young, but you can drink it now if it is allowed to breath a few hours and if it accompanies food that makes allowances for high tannin. Very pleasant and complex - next not before 2022 ideally. 92

May 30, 2019 - Notes from Stayhappy and Zeds are spot on. Drank this 375 too fast - pnp - it would have benefited from more air time. Tight but smooth.

May 14, 2019 - Drank this at Famous Treasure to share with a group of wine enthusiasts over dinner. Theme of the evening: Wines from Rhone.

One of the stars of the night. Rounded, smooth and well balanced in terms of power, acidity, energy and body. Blackberries, dark coffee, black currant fruit cakes, rich plums and a hint of spices.

Ready to drink after a double decant and this beauty should continue to shine and reward the drinker for the next 10 years; if one is patient enough.
