July 26, 2023 - An evening with George (Bistro Cocotte, Haberfield): Medium minus intensity aromas show savoury black fruits; berries; cherries, sweet spice, a little meaty underpin. Juicy, fleshy fruit are dark hued, sweet spice, it's a little hard form a tannic perspective, chewy, savoury, long, fruit gets more savoury with time hand in hand with the tannins. Yum

September 8, 2021 - Decanted 4 hours in advance. Started off disappointingly awkward. After a fair bit of decanter swirling and air time in Riedel Sommelier glasses a more balanced and pleasurable wine began to emerge. Last sips were the best.

July 23, 2021 - Deep ruby-garnet color with rim variation.
    Grassy, earthy, savage blackberries, smoky.
So so, but I don’t think i’ll try again.

January 23, 2021 - Bottle breathe for 1:15 hour before serving. Deep red color. Nose contains integrated flower, red fruit, forest, wood which is common for older style Burgundy. The tannin is starting to integrate, not completely silky but not rigorous. A lot of wood, herbs and some fruits. I saw some less desirable comments on this wine but personally I found it enjoyable, although the complexity may not be as expected for Grand Cru. It continued to evolve in 3 hours. Best 2 hours in the glass.

December 14, 2020 - Etienne Grivot owes us all an apology for the way that he treated fine grapes from great vineyards for about a decade. This wine is hard, thin, lacking in bouquet and fruit, and less enjoyable than many wines that cost a tenth as much. It has had 21 years to come around, and it shows little sign of ever being able to offer the experience that one should get from a Grand Cru burgundy, from a vineyard so storied that Napoleon had his troops kneel when they marched by. If any of you have experienced his wines after he changed his methods, please let us know from what vintage onwards you would trust him to produce a good experience. I can attest that those vintages were not 1996 or 1999.

Burgundy-Report

(Grivot Jean Clos de Vougeot) Very deep colour - looks like Bordeaux. The nose starts with plenty black and red fruit-skin notes but slowly becomes less giving and settles-down to an interesting spice note redolent of cumin. The palate is very polished and concentrated with mouth-wrapping velvet tannin that's well matched to sweet black-shaded fruit and acidity that you hardly notice. The finish, like the fruit, is quite primary and of good length. Not an austere CV and easily drinkable but one that could do with at least another 5-7 years before assessing. Very fine.
