Community Tasting Notes 5

October 2, 2021 - This was a very nice showing for this wine, the nose was expressive and worth the price of admission on its own. Some evolving fruit flavors, enough remaining structure if just a little bit drying on the finish

January 15, 2019 - Medium garnet, trending to brick. Nicely balanced, medium complexity and fullness. Bramble fruit and tar, with a slight savory note on the long finish. Still pretty tanic; air helped, but I'll give my remaining bottles more time. This producer does a nice job of straddling the old and new world styles.

September 15, 2018 - This producer always seems to make wine that is easy to drink, high in classic flavors. Not overly complex but a great value at the price point.

September 3, 2016 - Interesting style but not what I expected. First night was light-bodied with some brett showing. I am particularly sensitive to brett, but to me this was just enough barnyard to make it interesting. (OTOH, my wife wouldn't touch it.) On second night, however, the fruit started to come through, but more in the style of a richer pinot, not a cab, with black cherry rather than cassis. I really enjoyed this, but would not have correctly identified it as a CA cab.

October 18, 2014 - Wine starts off in lighter style, but continues with solid mid palate presence, and a long lingering finish - in some sense more like what you get from a burgundy than from a dense gravelly cali cab. It turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise to me unless you look for a specific predefined style. I bought this at $30 from WTSO, and would buy again.
